school programs
guided shoreline tour

available for grades 7-12

the program:

Travel back in time 60 million years before dinosaurs and let your students immerse themselves in the life and landscapes of the Permian Period! This easy 1-km hike not only takes place along a beautiful stretch of Prince Edward Island’s shoreline, but is our province’s most prolific fossil site. Laura MacNeil, geologist and educator, will transport your class back in time to the Age of Synapsids, when sail-backed pelycosaurs, reptiliomorphs and early reptiles roamed amongst the first-ever coniferous forests at the centre of the largest supercontinent in Earth history: Pangea.

Students will get hands-on with real P.E.I. fossils and casts, have fun fossil hunting, and see P.E.I.’s largest fossil. After participating in a Prehistoric Tour your students will have a newfound appreciation for our province’s geologic history, guaranteed!
